I’ve been shopping for my Fall wardrobe for months, July to be exact and when I tell you it is coming together to be everything I’ve ever dreamt of. It is literally my goal wardrobe I’ve imagined for a few years now, I am so excited! My favorite most coveted pieces are knits all in neutral hues.
This skirt is one of the first knit pieces I purchased for my dream Fall/Winter wardrobe. I purchased a coordinating sweater for it but it is way too hot for that. I cooled the look off with a basic white v-neck t tied up, this is a classic t-shirt I’ve had in my closet for years. I don’t wear t’s a ton but I have a few good ones in my arsenal because basics are a must that will last you for years.
To make my feminine knit skirt more street style I accessorized with a belt bag, cross chest like the cool kids wear it these days. I bought this belt bag last Summer from Target to play with the trend, I like it but not enough to invest in this style.
To finish off the look I paired my new skirt, old tee and old belt bag with my new all white Cali Sneakers I purchased to go with my dream Fall wardrobe. I know I’m hyping my new purchases up but they’re so dope!
It’s the last week of August, pumpkin spice everything is on end caps in Target that means FALLLLLLL !!!!! While it was 70 degrees 2 days ago it’s in the 80’s/ 90’s the rest of the week sooooo …. not really Fall weather quite yet.
To make my new jewel tone sweater more weather appropriate I styled it with my favorite (technically summer) jeans and platform sandals. The light weight denim and sandals both make room for breezes to keep me cool not to mention the sweater is very light weight and breezy itself. To help keep this look in Fall tones I paired it with a classic MCM clutch which also ties in the platform sandals.
Literally, everything besides my sweater and sunglasses are sold out. Sorry! But this sweater is a highly recommend. It was my favorite purchase from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It’s very soft, a fun color and a cute cut. I will say this sweater is for warmer climates, the knit is very large as in it’s “holy” so air is breezing through and you may see a bit of bra if you don’t layer it. I’m 100% cool with that but I wanted to share if you’re not into boob or if you live in a colder climate. It’s not going to take you through Winter unless you layer.
If you are not new here then you know I love a sweatsuit, sweatsuits have been a go-to for me for 20 years. They are kinda my thing. I’ve been asked on Instagram a few times how I manage to look pulled together when I wear sweats so I wanted to share my tips with you guys.
I grew up on J. Lo and have to credit her street glam style as a huge inspo for me and my style. No matter what, J.Lo is glam. When she wore that pink Juicy Couture sweatsuit in the “I’m Real” video she was in full glam. Lots of gold jewelry, hair and make-up done…. and that’s it! That’s the key in looking put together.
TOP SWEATSUIT STYLING TIPS
Do your hair! Curl it, Flat iron it, put it up in a full glam bun. DO YOUR HAIR!
Make-up doesn’t hurt. We know I go bare face all the time so you don’t have to go full glam but some eyebrow gel and a coat of mascara can go a long way
NO GYM SHOES the sneakers you wear to the gym are not to be worn anywhere but the gym. Unless you have really cool gym shoes. Personally, I have gym shoes (& clothes) that only see the gym.
PROPER SHOES gym sneakers and leisure sneakers are not one in the same. I would never wear my vans or Nike Cortez to the gym those are for leisure.
“Dress shoes” I love wearing my sweats with a cute sandal, a real sandal (with a back) not a slide. I stay away from slides they look and feel like bedroom shoes when worn with sweats. A loafer slide-on or driving shoe is a way to elevate your sweatsuit. Heels, wear your heels!
Accessorize throw on your favorite jewelry! Layer your necklaces and bracelets, do it up. Wear a nice hat, not a baseball hat. Go for a fedora, newsboy hat etc. You can wear a “fashion” baseball hat ex: suede, fall plaid print, etc. Those special details elevate not only the hat but your overall look.
Handbag. Carry a clutch, go with a cute mini bag. Personally I stay away from totebags and I don’t exactly love the way they look worn either. I don’t dislike them, they’re just not for me. I do find big tote bags look a little disheveled. Yes, that includes the LV Neverfull.
Those are my top tips! Rule of Thumb: dress yourself like you are getting ready in a dress to go out with your girls or man. You’re just wearing a sweatsuit instead of a dress.
True to form the pieces that make up this look were purchased over the past few years. The hoodie dress is 3 years old from H&M. Surprisingly a good sweatshirt dress is hard to come by so if you see one you love, BUY IT!
Sunglasses, Clutch and Sneakers were all purchased in the past 6 months. Clutch is currently sold out.
Now, for the $5 Fall wardrobe update item … the blazer! It was actually only $3 but $5 sounds better to me. I wanted an oversized blazer to layer over a few Fall looks, like with a lot of my Fall/Winter outerwear I went to the thrift store. I’ve found that you can find better quality pieces thrifting than you can buy new in store. Unless, you’re spending a few hundred or more the quality just doesn’t tend to be there in today’s outerwear selection.
I really hit the jackpot with this blazer, it’s a pretty green shade with bold gold hardware, strong soldier pads and 100% wool. The cut, hardware and shoulder pads give a bit of Balmain vibes. I’m considering having it altered to fit my body better, we’ll see how I’m feeling later in the season.
If you want to elevate your outerwear pieces without dropping a few hundred dollars, I highly recommend thrifting. I do not recommend Goodwill nor do I shop there. 1. it’s a for profit “charity”, ethically they’re a little shady. 2. Goodwill is where everyone goes to drop off their current junk so none of it is vintage or quality. It’s typically items that have been in stores in the past couple of years.
What I do recommend … I love Value Village, they are a chain and receive a good amount of their items from The Kidney Foundation. The location I go to is in the well off suberbs. My theory as to why they always have good finds is when an older person passes away their children call the Kidney Foundation to pick up their clothing. I always find quality vintage pieces with dry cleaning tags on them.
